Movies

I'm an asst. mgr. at a movie theatre. It would be the best job in the world if I had more time to watch movies. I love movies that can make me cry, laugh, scream, or think. If it has the ability to do that, then it is an excellent movie.
My ratings are simple. 5-EXCELLENT, 4-VERY GOOD, 3-GOOD, 2-OKAY, 1-BAD. Just remember, most people have different tastes. These are just my and my friends opinions. You are welcome to disagree or agree as you like. Also,
beware of spoilers. You have been warned. If you would like to send me your opinions then e-mail me at roapearl@diaryland.com and I'll put it up.

Shakespeare In Love R ::Sigh:: This romantic comedy is superbly done by Joseph Fiennes and Gwyneth Paltrow. I can't get enough of the British films! 5

The Sixth Sense R This movie was a very well acted and creepy film that also made me cry. The twist ending was a big surprise too! 5

Snatch R 4

Snow Falling on Cedars PG-13 This was visually stunning, but extremely slow paced. I cried at this one as well. The mystery storyline was good, but one could fall asleep waiting for the outcome. 3
From MegSeattle: This movie was really special. Roalee is somewhat right with her timing assessment. SFoC moves kind of slow, but apart from the opening, the movement is appropriate for the movie. Ethan Hawke gives a strong performance, and the story is intriguing, especially for those of us from the Pacific NW. The cinematography in SFoC is amazing... 4

Something About Mary R I laughed my tail off at this movie. I also saw it six times! Gross and disgusting, but fuuuunny! 4

Star Wars: Episode I-The Phantom Menace PG Sci-fi. It's a classic now. What can I say, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Ah, and I only saw it once, so far! 4

Stigmata R Made me think. REALLY, REALLY THINK. I didn't think it was offensive, just bloody. 3

Stir of Echoes R Whoa! Sometimes I wonder if people write the same script, sell it to two different companies and sees what comes out. Another creepy one. A bit more action packed, though. 3 1/2

Superstar PG-13 It was funny. I've never seen the character on SNL, but I'm sure she's just as crazy. 2 1/2

The Sweetest Thing R Oh my gosh! Another hilarious movie starring Cameron Diaz. She's great with Christina Applegate in this one. I just can't decide whether the gals or the guys would enjoy this more. 4

The Talented Mr. Ripley R This movie was very disturbing and creepy. It was slow-paced. It was just creepy. ::Shiver:: I saw it because Gwyneth Paltrow was in it. 2
From MegSeattle: The Talented Mr. Ripley is brilliant. Amazing work by writer/director Anthony Minghella, and actors Matt Damon, Jude Law, Cate Blanchett, and Phillip Seymore Hoffman. Gwynneth Paltrow's Marge is performed well, but the character left a tiny bit to be desired. The scenery in this is amazing, and the story intriguing. It sucks you in from the beginning, and one reason I think Roalee didn't like it much (aside from being a psycho crackhead) is that you cheer on Tom Ripley, but feel horrified doing so with every action he takes. This is a truly magnificent film. And another thought...where are the Oscar noms for picture, director, and actor, hmm? 5

Tarzan G This Disney version of the Tarzan story was great! I cried and laughed during it. The animation was top rate. 4

Titus R From MegSeattle: Shell out the bucks just for the opening...an army of Roman soldiers marching into an arena. This movie is cool. Julie Taymor is awesome. Her adaptation of Shakespeare's "Titus Andronicus" is part ancient Roman, part modern. Anthony Hopkins, Jessica Lang, Angus Macfadyn, Colm Feore, Laura Fraser, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Matthew Rhys, and especially Alan Cumming and Harry J. Lennix, turned in amazing performances . The costumes and make-up are awesome, and nominated for an Oscar (I think). If you like Baz Luhrmann's 'William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet', you should like this. 4

Topsy-Turvy R From MegSeattle: This is a great movie, but kinda long. It's beautiful to look at and Mike Leigh did some terrific directing. It's the story of Gilbert and Sullivan and how they came to write The Mikado. If you love Gilbert and Sullivan (a-HEM, Roalee)or if you've ever worked on a play or musical, you'll appreciate this. Good, solid performances by the entire cast. And it's British! 5

Toy Story G A wonderful computer animated movie. It is good for all ages and funny to boot. 4

Toy Story 2 G This computer animated movie was better than the first. It's hilarious and great for all ages, even adults. 5

What Lies Beneath PG-13 Ah, creepy! It was very slow and took too long to establish the plot. In fact, the plot jumped around so much, it was hard to pin down the story. And during the whole thing, I was thinking that it was trying too hard to be like a lot of the Hitchcock movies. 2 1/2

What Women Want PG-13 3 1/2

Willow PG I like this movie. I think it's one of the first fantasy movies that I ever saw. Now look what happened. 4
X
X-Men PG-13 Yeah! Patrick Steward made a great Dr. Xaivier. Enjoyed this movie, though the female characters could have done more. 4

Y
Young Frankenstein PG I love a Mel Brooks movie. This was one that didn't have him in it. It was still hilarious I think it's classic. Not just the way it was filmed, either. 5

102 Dalmatians PG 3
